At University of Florida, Jai Price is a music major in combination with astrophysics. He is founder of Jai Price & the Gainesville Jazz Ambassadors and co-founder of the J Street Jazz Combo. He was introduced to jazz in middle school and has “been in love with it ever since.” He is a HAPCO LIVE musician, playing on-site and online events through the non-profit’s LIVE music program. He has been playing drums since 2013; he has played professionally since 2014.
He performs throughout Florida at venues including Blue Bamboo, Pilar’s, The Melting Pot, The Vines, Crafted and Ember and Heidi’s Jazz Club. He performs with the Liquid Groove Project, J Street; he has performed with Delfeayo Marsalis and Jacqueline Jones. He has performed at the Red Rooster Restaurant in Harlem.
Jai has been the drum set player for the Florida Symphonic Jazz Orchestra (FSYO) top Jazz Band under the direction of Jeff Rupert and the Principal Percussionist for the FSYO Philharmonia Orchestra. He plays drum set for Infinity Percussion’s World Ensemble. He played rack and drum set for Infinity Percussion 2 in 2018 and 2019, with the ensemble winning 3rd place and 4th place at the World Finals respectively. He has studied with Chris Smith, Danny Raymond and Marty Morrell.
