Trombonist Tyler Bonilla is intent upon spreading the joy of music to all. A jazz studies major at the New England Conservatory of Music, he volunteers as a HAPCO Youth Advisor for Summer Jazz Band Camp and other summer events. An avid mentor to younger students, he created the Tyler Bonilla Scholarship for the band camp, awarded to a student based upon criteria including skill, motivation and financial need. His work has been recognized by organizations including Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts and the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation. He collaborates with other musicians for ensemble and improv performances [Tyler, not sure if saying that correctly – mention big projects you have done the past year]. He has performed with artists including Paquito de Rivera, Michael Phillip Mossman and Steve Wilson. He has received instruction from renowned trombonists including Marshall Gilkes and Michael Dease. He was part of the 2016 All-National Jazz Band of America. Throughout his middle and high school years, he received many accolades for his work, including awards for Best Trombone Soloist and Best Trombone Section at the UNF Jazz Festival in 2016.
