Over 700 people joined us to experience an incredible night of jazz from the Ron Carter Trio in Oakland, Florida on Sep 24, 2022! The legendary bassist was accompanied by Russell Malone, guitar, and Donald Vega, piano.
The Orlando Youth Chamber Ensemble under the direction of Jesus Lopez kicked off the evening. The UCF Flying Horse Big Band under the direction of saxophonist and American jazz musician Jeff Rupert also performed.
Miami vocalist LeNard Rutledge was our emcee. For his work as a clinician, musician and advocate, Mr. Rutledge was presented with our 2022 Ambassador of the Year award. He was instrumental in the opportunity to share the music of Ron Carter in Oakland, Florida.
We enjoyed chatting with Mr. Carter, Mr. Malone and Mr. Vega at the Meet the Artist Reception at the Healthy West Orange Arts and Heritage Center at the Town of Oakland.
We were proud to have Lt. Daniel Keel, a Tuskegee Airman, as an honored guest. Also spotted in the crowd: Saxophonist & Flautist Najee and Mickey Smith Jr., recipient of the 2020 Grammy for Music Educator.
HAPCO Music Foundation hosted the Ron Carter Trio’s performance, which was presented in collaboration with Pappy Martin Legacy Jazz Collective and Tennessee Valley Jazz Society and supported by Presenter Consortium for Jazz, a program of Chamber Music America, funded through the generosity of the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.
