HAPCO Clinician Derrick Harris at Jones High School’s Summer Music Enrichment Program

This month, HAPCO Clinician Derrick Harris will join other educators at Jones High School’s Summer Music Enrichment Program. Instruction includes concert literature, solo and ensemble literature, as well as drill music in preparation for the upcoming season. He will also teach a low brass master class at their Summer Band Camp. Grammy Nominated Music Educator Naomi J. Nelson is the school’s Director of Bands

As an instructor of Jazz Improvisation and Lower Brass Studies, Derrick’s dedication, passion and ambition is shown towards his students. He helps each pupil get better one note at a time by implementing good practice techniques, embouchure control, and the essentials of the trombone as an instrument.

He is the CEO of Eighth Note Productions and a trombonist in the Dr. Phillips Jazz Orchestra. When performing, he aims to create a sensational, melodic atmosphere for his audiences. He plays both originally composed and arranged music, as well as interpretations of popular music from a variety of styles. He plays many musical styles including jazz, big band, and ‘50s and ‘60s rock; Caribbean music is a specialty.
