HAPCO Health educator Chef Darren Thompson was the Guest Chef of the Month at a master class in September. It was part of the NAF Academy of Culinary Arts program at Miami Central Senior High School.
He guided the students on cooking techniques and tools as they helped create an andouille sausage jambalaya. He shared ways to take advantage of seasonal ingredients, using a dish like jambalaya as a base to craft a variety of meals, mindful of available ingredients and budget.
He gave away some kitchen tools and books in the highly interactive master class.
Thanks to Chef Yolanda Washington, Miami Central Senior High School, Sherryl King-Weathers, Community Stakeholder and Liaison for the Miami Central program, and Raymond J. Sands, Miami Central Principal for making this master class happen!
