A note from UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Herbie Hancock – International Jazz Day 2024

A note from UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Herbie Hancock on the tremendous impacts of International Jazz Day 2024. Jazz lovers from over 190 countries shared the spirit of jazz, celebrating a shared commitment to peace and intercultural dialogue. As Mr. Hancock says, “Music remains one of humanity’s most powerful tools for mutual understanding and respect.”

We are proud to be a part of International Jazz Day and look forward to celebrating in 2025 as part of the Apopka Saturday Sounds series at the Apopka Amphitheater, Saturday, Apr 26, 5-7 pm. Derrick Harris & Eighth Note Collective will perform at this free performance.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) officially designated April 30 as International Jazz Day in order to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe. Each year, this international art form is recognized for promoting peace, dialogue among cultures, diversity, and respect for human rights and human dignity; eradicating discrimination; fostering gender equality; and promoting freedom of expression.
