Celebrate International Jazz Day with us at the Town of Oakland’s Farmer’s Market. Derrick Harris & Friends will perform jazz classics and original compositions.

Harris is the CEO of Eighth Note Productions and a trombonist in the Dr. Phillips Jazz Orchestra. Performing with him: Robert Bradley, keys; Caila Carter, vocals; Darrell Demonia, drums; and Jose Figueroa, bass.

When performing, Harris aims to create a sensational, melodic atmosphere for his audiences. He plays both originally composed and arranged music, as well as interpretations of popular music from a variety of styles. He plays many musical styles including jazz, big band, and ‘50s and ‘60s rock; Caribbean music is a specialty.

Funding provided by The Music Performance Trust Fund (MPTF). The non-profit’s mission includes contributing to the public knowledge and appreciation of music, as well as making music a part of every child’s life experience. It funds projects that provide admission-free, live, quality music, performed by professional musicians to the public of all backgrounds throughout the United States and Canada. HAPCO Music Foundation helps disadvantaged young people use their musical, culinary and artistic talents to build their better futures. The non-profit organization has education and performance programs in Florida, Texas and Georgia. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) officially designated April 30 as International Jazz Day in order to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe. Each year, this international art form is recognized for promoting peace, dialogue among cultures, diversity, and respect for human rights and human dignity; eradicating discrimination; fostering gender equality; and promoting freedom of expression.
