Jayden attended the Berklee College of Music Summer Program with the assistance of a HAPCO scholarship. A senior at Harrison School for The Arts in Lakeland, he has played jazz and classical on the upright bass for seven years and the electric bass for one year.
One of his camp classes was with Bruce Gertz, who taught at Berklee since 1976 and recently retired as Chair of the Berklee Bass Department. He taught Jayden different techniques that he learned directly from Ron Carter. Jayden said he learned so much from all the classes, but this was his favorite class.
Jayden also met five-time Grammy-winning bassist Victor Wooten, who serves as a Visiting Scholar in Performance Studies (Bass) at the school. He teaches, hosts clinics and co-leads the annual Victor Wooten/Berklee Summer Bass Workshop.
Jayden loved the summer program and fell in love with Berklee – he has already interviewed for early admission. And after the program, his classmates at high school are telling him how much he has grown as a musician over the summer. His school band director is Robert Lambert.
