Saxophonist and composer Jorge Galvan is an upcoming young jazz musician from Houston, Texas, currently studying Jazz at the University of North Texas, in Denton, under renowned professors, such as Alto saxophonist Brad Leali, Richard Derosa, bassist Lynn Seaton, and pianist Dave Meder to name a few.
He first learned to play through playing in church as a child. Then in high school, joined Diaz Music Institute, a non profit organization based in Houston for kids of all ages to learn to play Latin Jazz. He played with the organization’s premiere Latin Jazz ensemble “Caliente” under the direction of Grammy-nominated director, Jose Antonio Diaz.
Jorge Galvan has learned from/worked with Michael Dease, Jimmy Green, Gary Smulyan, Horace Alexander Young, current saxophonist on tour with Stevie Wonder, Jordan Donald, and Eric Alexander. During his time with Caliente, they played with many great artists such as Ignacio Berroa, Ndugu Chancelor, Brian Lynch, Horace Alexander Young, Nestor Torres, Angelo Pagan, Jimmy Morales, Poncho Sanchez and Jose Valentino at top venues across Houston.
