Get ready for an evening of upbeat, feel-good jazz featuring The Eighth Note Collective and Josephine Swing.

Part of the City of Apopka’s Saturday Sounds series, HAPCO’s International Jazz Day Concert Apopka is Saturday, April 18, from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the Apopka Amphitheater.

Expect lively rhythms, soulful solos and plenty of swing as outstanding local musicians bring the amphitheater stage to life. From smooth grooves to big band energy, it’s a perfect night for music lovers of all ages.

Enjoy dinner and treats from local food trucks or bring your own picnic to enjoy throughout the evening.

The amphitheater offers 1,360 seats plus lawn space, so bring blankets or chairs if you’d like to relax on the grass. Picnic baskets and coolers are welcome.

Featured Performers

The Eighth Note Collective is a dynamic group of local jazz standouts known for their creative flair incorporating notes of classic jazz, blues, Latin rhythms and other high energy styles. They are Caila Carter, Paul Chong-You, Jose Figueroa, Derrick Harris, Ed Krout and Rion Smith.

Also bringing the big band swing is Josephine Swing, a lively ensemble of alumni from the Orlando Youth Chamber Ensembles led by Santiago Parra-Romero. Their set features highly danceable classics along with fresh original compositions.

The evening will be hosted by Sterling Stevenson, known as “The Voice of Bragg” at Bragg Memorial Stadium and host of The Top 10 Countdown on Soul95.com.

Celebrate International Jazz Day with a joyful evening of music, community and great vibes in Apopka.

HAPCO Music Foundation helps disadvantaged young people use their musical, culinary and artistic talents to build their better futures. The non-profit organization has education and performance programs in Florida, Texas and Georgia. Students use their musical, culinary and artistic talents to fund their college education or to pursue professional careers.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) officially designated April 30 as International Jazz Day in order to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe. Each year, this international art form is recognized for promoting peace, dialogue among cultures, diversity, and respect for human rights and human dignity; eradicating discrimination; fostering gender equality; and promoting freedom of expression.
