We’re helping to send Peter, Rigels and Vincent to the annual JEN Conference in New Orleans, Jan 7-10. The Jazz Education Network is dedicated to building the jazz arts community by advancing education, promoting performance and developing new audiences.
With an avid interest in jazz history and culture, Peter looks forward to learning from the pro educators. As he explores secondary education opportunities and music careers, he thinks this conference will help him move forward on his musical journey.
A Senior who has been playing trombone for seven years, Rigels is excited to visit New Orleans, experiencing the culture and history behind a genre of music he loves. He looks forward to improving his skills with the knowledge he gains.
A Senior, Vincent has been playing upright bass for five years, drums for four years and multi-percussion for six years. He looks forward to expanding his world view by getting to know New Orleans and performing there.
At the conference, these high school musicians will explore jazz education topics including research, technology, the industry and music business, improv and composition. They will learn from educators and industry pros as they critique local school and community ensemble performances. There is a variety of performances during the day as well as evening concerts.
