Empowering young minds through the art of music! This Thursday, Schelvin Robinson will help trumpet students at First Coast High School in Jacksonville improve their creativity, resilience and personal development.

Through fun and supportive interaction, students will focus on practicing, fundamentals and solo repertoires.

Robinson is a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Florida State University, where he is pursuing a Doctor of Music in Trumpet Performance with a certificate in Arts Administration and College Teaching. He received the McKnight Doctoral and Dissertation Fellowship (2025–2026).

He is the founder of Trumpet Outreach for Youth Education (TOYE), a nonprofit dedicated to supporting the next generation of trumpet players through workshops, mentorship and educational resources.

Thanks to First Coast’s Band Director Kenneth Solomon for incorporating this HAPCO master class into his teaching. Since 2013, he has grown the school’s band program through competitions and events, earning superior ratings on the district and state levels.

FAMU alum fun fact: both Schelvin and Kenneth earned their Bachelor’s in Music Education degrees from FAMU.
