This golf tournament is named after Kenneth R. Tolbert, the former high school Band Director and Chairman
of the HAPCO Music Foundation’s Board of Directors. Our goal is to raise $15,000 for students to participate in Art programs in West Orange County and a portion earmarked for anyone throughout the country (Grade school up to College).

About Kenneth R. Tolbert (1945 – 2012)
Born in Jacksonville, Florida Kenneth Tolbert is a product of the Duval County Public School System and graduated from the New Stanton High School in 1963. Mr. Tolbert attended Florida A&M University where he participated in the Marching “100” Band as well as the Symphonic Band and was selected for Who’s Who Among America’s Colleges and Universities. Upon graduation, Mr. Tolbert taught music education in several schools throughout the state of Florida prior to securing the band director position at Miami Central High School where he remained from 1971 – 85. Following his Tenure at Miami Central he then moved to Miami Norland High School from1986 – 1998. Bands under Tolbert’s direction received superior ratings from 1974 – 1998. He finished his illustrious teaching career work with band students at Florida Memorial University, Dillard High School in Ft. Lauderdale and Kennedy Middle School. Tolbert was named Teacher of the year 5 times and the runner up for Miami-Dade County in 1986. He was a member of the Florida Bandmasters Association, National Band Association, Kappa Kappa Psi, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the Greater Miami Community Band. He was elected to Florida A&M University Gallery of Distinction, received the Miami-Dade County Commission Certificate of Achievement and was inducted into the Florida Bandmasters Association Hall of Fame in November of 2011.
