During the Day: The festival has a clinic session. This component provides increased visibility and career opportunities for middle and high school students who may be interested in pursuing music in their educational endeavors. During this session, (18 ) local middle and high school jazz bands will perform for a panel of three professional jazz adjudicators. Each band will receive a written and verbal critique of their performance from each panelist. Immediately following the band’s performance they will receive a clinic session with one of the judges. During this clinic the jazz professional will have the opportunity to work specifically on aspects that will enhance the band’s performance as well as broaden the student’s jazz knowledge and capacity. Each band will also have the opportunity to observe one another which is another valuable aspect of a proper music education experience. This also serves as an educational and mentoring opportunity for students.
Additional, the bands will receive a complete Audio recording of thier performance and video of the following clinic, all courtesy of our partner Matt Farrington of the Garden Music School in Winter Garden – www.gardenmusicschool.com.
During the Evening: The Sunshine Jazz Festival offers an evening performance featuring University of Florida Gator Jazz Band. Also performing are Ocoee High School Jazz Band, Blu-Tet, Jazz Legend Miss Jackie Jones and many others.

The University of Florida Gator Jazz program offers musicians a positive opportunity for personal and musical growth and aptly prepares them to break into the professional music industry. The Gator Jazz Band and Jazz Combos are very visible groups in the community and therefore expectations for these ensembles are very high as our ultimate goal is to set national standards. Our teaching philosophy is holistic and includes preparing students for tomorrow’s music industry. Our courses provide very valuable content such as access to 35 jazz instructional videos, jazz workbooks, jazz textbooks, online platforms, flash cards, jazz links, networking opportunities, international audition opportunities, summer camps, scholarships, private jazz lessons, and access to many other resources and tools available on the University of Florida’s beautiful campus. For the students that have already participated in our jazz ensembles is it a true honor to be part of their musical journey and we look forward to assisting these students in every way possible throughout their career. For those new students looking for commercial music training and technology skills, the School of Music has very attractive Combination Degrees (Music with an outside field) and the University of Florida has been ranked top in the nation for job placement. Agenda/Curriculum for Film Intensive
“The Basics of Acting”
Here the students will get a feel of what it is like to get in front of the camera, this will include some simple on-camera techniques often used.
Instructors will conduct certain exercises to get the kids to interact and get their creativity flowing.
Class Objective:
This two-day class will help the student feel more comfortable on camera, as well as learning how to work well with others. These two key points are very crucial for the students to learn, being that they will have to interact with others in the real career world.
The class will give them essential tools that will help them in “real world” situations.
“The Principles of Production”
Students will learn very simple ways of how they can use the resources available to them, to organize and produce a video project.
On the second day of this class, the students will be assigned to a specific role, which will then lead them to produce and edit their final product. This final product will be a Public Service Announcement or a 3 minute short.
Class Objective:
The purpose of this class is to teach the students to express their right to “Freedom of Speech”, they can create awareness to issues that they feel are important with whatever resources are available to them.

Over the past three years, HAPCO Visual Arts Clinic has been successful in providing positive programs for the students in the community. Our measure of success is derived through outcomes obtained by surveys and exit interviews of students who participated in the program. In the past year, students attending the Visual Arts Clinic report increase self-esteem and increase interest in the arts. Students reported an increase in creative thinking and writing skills. Our outcomes also revealed that student’s fear of public speaking decreased and their participation strengthened peer relationships, teamwork and interaction with others. This program expansion builds upon these positive outcomes and the need as expressed in the community. Survey responses from participants and parents, as well as feedback from collaborative partners will continue to be our measure of successful programming for students.

 Tony Wynnis a Central Florida Jazz Saxophonist by way of New York. He has released two CD’s, his first project “A quiet Time”, and his latest “A Matter of Fact”.Tony,s style includes Classic, Bebop, Smooth, Latin, and Acid Jazz. His mainstay has been Smooth Jazz but he will occasionally include several Jazz standards in his playlist.This well seasoned Sax Man has performed with the late great “Isaac Hayes” as well as opened for Vocalists KEM , Micheal Buble, Lenny Williams and the Funk Band The Bar-Kays.Tony,s “Cuban” heritage is evident in some of his compositions which have a distinct Latin flavor.  Tuskegee Airman — Lt. Daniel KeelFlight Officer Daniel Keel was a junior studying aeronautical engineering at Northwestern University when he was drafted into the Air force in 1943. After basic training, he arrived at Tuskegee for training where over time he earned a navigator rating and later was assigned to the Army Air Force Bombardier School in Midland, Texas.After his time at Tuskegee, he returned to Northwestern University and majored in Electrical Engineering. He is one of the three Triple Rated Tuskegee Airmen: Navigator, Bombardier and Pilot. After forming his own company, he retired in 1998, moved to Illinois and then to Florida. He now resides in Clermont with his wife Barbara. |
 Highwaymen Artist —- Isaac “IKE” KnightIssac Knight is one of six children born to the late Plantation workers Arthur and Mabel Knight of Tallahassee, Florida where he was born.He is happily married to Lillie Denmark-Knight. He is the father of 2 children Cedric and Tiffany. He also has one daughter-in-law, Keri and 2 grandchildren Sydney and Desirae.Issac (sometimes called IKE) became a Highwaymen and painter almost inadvertently. He initially got his start by being a seller of Alfred Hair and Al Black’s paintings.After being mentored by Al Black, his brother in law, he began painting about 1968. He still maintained his full time job, which would only allow him to paint in the evenings and late into the nights. This allowed him to have the opportunity to go out on Saturdays (sometimes Sundays ) and sell paintings. On Sundays afternoons he would go to the Jetties In Fort Pierce and sell paintings. On some occasions he would travel as far as Gainesville, Florida and back in one day and as far south as Miami, Florida.

The Frost Concert Jazz Band has been the University of Miami’s premiere large ensemble for over 30 years. The band has numerous recordings to its credit, which showcase the long lineage of world-class talent. Most recently, the band has won Downbeat’s award for outstanding performance by a college big band in 2006 and best big band in 2007 and 2010. Recent guest artists include Ignacio Berroa, Dave Liebman, Joe Lovano, Slide Hampton, Randy Brecker and resident talents Ira Sulllivan and Shelly Berg.
